Social Butterfly ATX’s Signature Cocktail Menu: How We Build It and Why

Every cocktail on the Social Butterfly ATX menu started the same way. These are three of our featured cocktails, but behind them is a full menu of tried-and-tested drinks that guests ask for again and again. Charles and I were out somewhere, we tried something we loved, and one of us said some version of "we could make this better." Then we went home and did exactly that!

That is the honest origin of every drink we serve. Not a spreadsheet of trending ingredients or a focus group. Just two people who genuinely love going out, love great drinks, and have strong opinions about both.

Here is how we build our cocktail menu, and the real stories behind three of our most requested drinks.

How We Actually Build a Menu

The process starts long before any event booking. Charles and I spend a lot of time eating and drinking out around Austin. When we have something that stops us mid-conversation, we pay attention to it. What made it work? Was it the balance of acid and sweetness? An unexpected ingredient? The way it felt on a warm night versus a cold one?

We go home and start working on our own version. We tweak the ratios, swap ingredients, and try different spirits. We make it a few times until we both agree it is right. Then we hand it to our friends and watch their faces.

If they finish the glass quickly and ask what was in it, we know we have something.

Every drink on our menu has gone through that process. Which means every drink on our menu is something we would genuinely order ourselves.

The Other Thing About Our Menu

Every cocktail we make is approachable and customizable. We never want a guest to feel like they cannot have something because of one ingredient they do not love. That includes alcohol!

Is the Pina Fuego too spicy? We can leave the habanero tincture out. Not a pineapple person? We can swap the flavor entirely. Some of our current seasonal favorites are passionfruit, blood orange, and hot honey peach. Same drink, same energy, a different flavor story. Prefer something without bubbles? We can adjust by using club soda. Want it a little sweeter or a little more tart, tell us and we’ll make it happen. That conversation is part of the service, not an inconvenience.

We build menus for our clients.

Lavender Oasis

Vodka, lemon lavender cordial, fresh lemon juice, topped with prosecco or club soda. Garnished with a dried citrus wheel, and a fresh lavender sprig.

The Lavender Oasis was born during an SXSW event we were working on, where the bar was sponsored by Delta Air Lines. Delta wanted a signature drink that felt tied to something specific. They had just launched nonstop flights from Austin to Palm Beach, California, and they wanted the cocktail to capture that destination. The feeling of landing somewhere warm, floral, and a little bit luxurious.

So we built it around that. Lavender for the California wine country softness, fresh lemon for brightness, and the kind of citrus that feels like sunshine, and Prosecco to give it that celebratory lift you feel stepping off a plane somewhere beautiful. The dried citrus wheel garnish was the finishing touch, something effortless yet elevated.

It became one of our most requested cocktails almost immediately. Guests who tried it at that event wanted to know what it was called and whether we could make it again. The answer is always yes.

It works beautifully for spring and summer events, bachelorette weekends, bridal showers, and any gathering where the host wants the bar to feel a little elevated and a little unexpected. The lavender makes people curious. The first sip makes them stay. This cocktail can also be made zero-proof for guests who don’t drink or aren’t drinking for whatever reason.

Island Wood Smash

A blend of vodkas, fresh lemon juice, elderflower, and mint. Served over ice, garnished with fresh mint and a cucumber ribbon.

This one came from chasing that specific feeling of a really good smash cocktail at the right moment. There is a category of drinks that just tastes like being somewhere fun, light and refreshing but with enough complexity that you are not just drinking flavored water. The Island Wood Smash is our version of that.

The elderflower is the ingredient that surprises people. It adds a floral, slightly honeyed quality that plays beautifully against the brightness of the lemon and the coolness of the mint. The cucumber ribbon on the garnish is not just decorative. It adds a subtle freshness every time you bring the glass to your lips.

This cocktail does especially well at pool parties, backyard summer events, and any occasion where guests are outside and the mood is celebratory without being formal. It batches well for larger guest counts and pours quickly without losing anything in the process. To make it even lighter, we can add a little prosecco or club soda for an effervescent touch!

Pina Fuego

A spicy pineapple margarita with house-made habanero tincture.

Austin loves a spicy margarita. We knew that when we started building this drink. But we wanted ours to earn its heat rather than just announce it. The Pina Fuego builds. The pineapple hits first, tropical and sweet, and then the habanero tincture arrives at the back of the sip in a way that feels exciting rather than aggressive.

The name came naturally. Pina for the pineapple. Fuego for the fire. It is exactly what it says it is, and guests love it for that honesty.

It has become one of our most requested cocktails for summer events, milestone birthday parties, and any host who wants their bar to have a little personality. In just the past few months alone, we have served over 30 gallons of Pina Fuego. That number still makes us laugh a little, but it makes sense. When guests try it, they want another, and when hosts see their guests’ reaction, they want it at every future event.

And as we mentioned, it is endlessly customizable. Not a fan of spice? We can leave the habanero tincture out. Not a pineapple person? We can swap the flavor entirely. Some of our current seasonal favorites are passionfruit, pina colada, and hot honey peach. Same drink, same energy, different flavor story. We make it work for your crowd every time.

What Our Clients Say

The proof, as they say, is in the pour. Our margaritas have earned their own reputation entirely on their own. More than one guest has called them the best they have ever had. But we will let one of our clients say it better than we can.

Palak, who hired us for a private party, put it this way:

"The drinks they made were some of the top drinks I've had from a hired bartender, even some cocktail bars. I was blown away. Not only were the drinks phenomenal, but the presentation was something I was not expecting. She used nice disposable glassware and added small touches to the drinks that really sealed the deal for me. The drinks looked beautiful. All the small details truly matter, and Millie follows this all the way."

That is exactly what we are going for every single time. The drink in the glass and the way it looks when it arrives. Both matter, and neither is an afterthought.

How We Build Your Menu

When a client books with Social Butterfly ATX, the cocktail menu conversation is one of our favorite parts of the planning process. We ask what you and your guests love to drink, what the vibe of the event is, whether there is a theme or a color story we should work with, and whether anyone has restrictions or preferences we should know about.

From there, we make recommendations. We have a full menu of tried and tested cocktails that guests consistently love, and we are always happy to pull from that list, build something new for your specific event, or do both. Either way, the goal is always the same: drinks that look as good as they taste, that fit the moment they are made for, and that your guests are still talking about on the way home.

That is what every drink on this menu is designed to do.

If you are planning an event and want to talk through what your bar could look like, submit an inquiry, and we will follow up within 12 hours.
